ISO/IEC DIS 25000-23.2, 6.7.2 ยท Heading only

6.7.2 Confidentiality measures

Confidentiality asks whether data is disclosed only to those entitled to see it. A measure relates correctly restricted access to the access attempts or assets examined.

The free preview lists this heading and its subheadings but not the requirement text. This page states what the heading requires in our words and never invents the wording.

Not legal advice; does not certify. This page states our reading of a public draft, not the standard's wording, and it is not an official interpretation.

What this heading covers

The population is data assets and the people or systems entitled to them. A measure can be built from access tests, from the proportion of assets classified and protected, or from incidents of disclosure. The first is preventive and the others are retrospective. The draft keeps confidentiality at the product level, so the measure is about the product's behaviour, not about the organisation's access policy. A test should include the negative case: an unauthorised attempt that must fail.

Record position: family 21 of 40 in clause 6, under 6.7 Security, which carries 6 families. It is one of the 40 families a programme has to map its measures to, and its elements are listed below. The heading is 6.7.2 in the public contents; the text behind it is not public.

How a measure for this family is built

Count the access attempts that were correctly allowed or refused as the numerator over the attempts tested, and report the unauthorised attempts separately because a false allow is a different failure from a false refuse. For an asset measure, divide the classified and protected assets by the assets in scope.

Our worked formula

Access attempts correctly allowed or refused divided by the attempts tested, with unauthorised attempts reported apart.

Measure elements that can feed it

Number of data items, Number of user operations, Number of interfaces

Chosen by us from the thirty-one quality measure elements named in Annex B. The draft does not publish which elements feed confidentiality, so the choice above is a worked example, not the draft's assignment.

What to put in place before publication

  1. Test the refusal as carefully as the allowance.
  2. Keep the asset list current, because an unlisted asset is outside the measure.

Evidence to keep

KindWhat it looks like
Asset listThe data assets and their classification
Access testEach attempt, the identity, the expected result and the actual result

The test a reviewer asks

  • Does the result include unauthorised attempts that were refused?
  • Is the asset population stated?

Two questions to ask

  • Which attempts were refused, not only allowed?
  • How many assets are in scope, and how many are classified?

Where teams usually fall short

  • An access review that checks who has access but never tries an unauthorised request.

What the number cannot tell you

It cannot tell you about a disclosure path nobody tested. Confidentiality is only evidenced against the attempts in the population.

What happens next

Integrity is the counterpart: data that is not disclosed can still be changed.

The rules this is built from

Read from the real rules, not invented.

This page is read from the public record for 6.7.2: the heading in the free contents, and where public, the text the preview carries.

  • Read from the real rules
  • 63 record pages behind it

The measure set is read from the public contents; the model table is read from the public 25010:2023 model. Where the draft text is not public, the page says so instead of filling the gap.

Nothing here is guessed while you wait. Each page is written from the public record and points to the exact page it came from. Record updated 22 October 2026
