Functional suitability
Functional suitability is about whether the product does the job it was meant to do, completely, correctly and appropriately for the task. The draft gives it three measure families.

ISO/IEC 25010:2023 · nine characteristics · forty-four subcharacteristics
Part 23 does not define quality. It measures the quality model in ISO/IEC 25010. Every heading in clause 6 is a characteristic or a measure family under one, which is why a change to the model is a change to the measures.

Functional suitability is about whether the product does the job it was meant to do, completely, correctly and appropriately for the task. The draft gives it three measure families.
6.3 · 3 families
Performance efficiency covers how quickly the product responds, how much resource it consumes and how much work it can carry. The draft gives it three measure families.
6.4 · 2 families
Compatibility covers whether the product can share an environment with other products and whether it can exchange information with them. The draft gives it two measure families.
6.5 · 8 families
Interaction capability is the 2023 name for what the earlier model called usability. The draft gives it eight measure families, the largest group in clause 6.
6.6 · 4 families
Reliability covers how rarely the product fails, how much of the time it is available, how it behaves when part of it fails, and how quickly it recovers. The draft gives it four measure families.
6.7 · 6 families
Security covers confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, accountability, authenticity and resistance. The draft gives it six measure families.
6.8 · 5 families
Maintainability covers how well the product can be modified: its modularity, reusability, analysability, modifiability and testability. The draft gives it five measure families.
6.9 · 4 families
Flexibility is the 2023 name for what the earlier model called portability. The draft gives it four measure families: adaptability, scalability, installability and replaceability.
6.10 · 5 families
Safety is the characteristic the 2023 model added to the product quality model. The draft gives it five measure families: operational constraint, risk identification, fail safe, hazard warning and safe integration.
The 2023 model carries forty-four subcharacteristics. The draft contents gives separate measure families to forty. Four have no separate family heading:
| Subcharacteristic | Characteristic | What the draft contents shows |
|---|---|---|
| Functional adaptability | Functional suitability | 6.2 lists completeness, correctness and appropriateness. No separate family. |
| Environmental sustainability | Performance efficiency | 6.3 lists time behaviour, resource utilization and capacity. No separate family. |
| User controllability | Interaction capability | 6.5 lists eight families and does not include it. No separate family. |
| Intervenability | Safety | 6.10 lists five families and does not include it. No separate family. |
Whether the General subclause under each characteristic covers them is not public. This record does not assume it does or does not. It records the gap, and the check asks how your programme handles it.
The 2011 model had eight characteristics. The 2023 edition has nine characteristics, adds safety, renames usability to interaction capability and portability to flexibility, replaces maturity with faultlessness and user interface aesthetics with user engagement, adds several subcharacteristics (among them functional adaptability, environmental sustainability, user controllability, inclusivity, resistance, scalability and the safety set), and modifies functional correctness. Four of the added subcharacteristics have no separate measure family in the draft. The table on the what changes page sets the 2011 model, the 2023 model and the draft side by side.
The model table is read from the public DIS 25059 sample, which prints the 25010:2023 characteristics and subcharacteristics and marks the additions and modifications. The 25010 page itself is linked in the sources.

Every line points to the public ISO record or the free preview it came from, so you can check it yourself.
The measure set is read from the public contents; the model table is read from the public 25010:2023 model. Where the draft text is not public, the page says so instead of filling the gap.
